Three Bald Eagles passed over our air space today (5/7/13).
I was talking with Ranger Rock at the Bungee Jump about the chickadee and bluebird nests here at the Museum, when he looked up and saw one, then two, large birds soaring in the gray, overcast sky above. Both birds were Bald Eagles.
And finally, almost fifteen minutes after the first two eagles passed, a third came into sight riding the beginnings of the same thermal as a Red-tailed Hawk.
I’ve said it many times in this Journal, “Keep your eyes to the skies.”

Super cool! I’m in VA visiting my Mom and we saw a pair of bald eagles a couple days ago. There’s actually a reserve close by along the Potomac River. So locals get to see them often!
Do you think they’re nesting at Falls Lake?
I know that there is one nesting pair of eagles at Falls Lake but I don’t think that the birds we saw here yesterday are among them. I think the birds seen yesterday were migrating or part of a post breeding dispersal. At least two of the eagles that went over were non-breeders, less than three years old.
