Nest Box Update 6.7.22

Top Photo: Eastern bluebird eggs.

Two active nests include nine nestlings, six newly hatched bluebirds and what appears to be three house wrens.

The Cow Pasture bluebird eggs have hatched. The birds’ eyes have yet to open. The parents are steadily supplying their offspring with plenty of protein. I can clearly count six nestlings.

A steady supply of food (6.7.22).
Male eastern bluebird delivering an insect to its young (6.7.22).

The nest box at Explore the Wild remains empty.

Unused nest at ETW (6.7.22).

Into the Mist has attracted no further activity in its nest box.

No activity at Into the Mist (6.7.22).

Though I counted six nestling house wrens in the nest box on the east side of the parking deck last week, I can only see three today. Are there a couple of nestlings underneath the visible birds, or have they not survived?

Not sure how many nestlings are in this house wren nest at PKE (6.7.22).

Another handful or two of twigs have been added to the nest box on the west side of the parking deck. Are wrens considering nesting here?

A house wren has added to the nest material at PKW nest box (6.7.22).

No activity has be observed at the Butterfly House nest box. The wren nest in the box remains untouched.

Butterfly House wren nest is inactive (6.7.22).

So, I can confirm nine nestlings, six bluebirds and three house wrens. I’ll check the wren nest later in the week to look for hidden birds, but as of this date I can only be certain of three wrens in the nest.

Thanks for sharing. Is the green box from strawberries bought at store, or do you buy new ones?

The molded pulp berry baskets we’ve been using were purchased online. They’re 1/2 pint and measure 4″ x 4″ across the top and are 1 3/4″ high. If you buy them by the case they can be had for very little money, worth it if you have a big bluebird trial. Some outlets sell them by the dozen or half dozen at a higher individual price.
They are very handy when it comes to cleaning out the nest boxes between broods. Good luck.
