Top Photo: Eastern bluebird eggs.
We have added seven new individuals to the local avifauna, four eastern bluebirds and three Carolina chickadees. All six of our nest boxes are without nestlings. Though, two have nest material from two different species and are slowly under construction.

At the Cow Pasture, a house wren has added to it’s meager nest in the past week. It doesn’t seem urgent. There were two twigs noted on last week’s inspection, a handful more this week.

Carolina chickadees have fledged from the nest box in Explore the Wild. Three young chickadees are now members of the local bird population.

A fresh berry basket was installed in the nest box at the Sailboat Pond. Last week a dead chickadee was discovered in the box and two nestlings were missing. A new start.

A new basket was also added to the nest box at Into the Mist. Last week it was discovered that at least one egg and two nestling chickadees were missing from the nest and a dead bird and unhatched egg were inside the box. Again, a fresh start for this nest box.

All four of the eastern bluebirds that had occupied the nest box at Parking Deck East have fledged.

Though there have been no birds seen at the site, a partially constructed bluebird nest remains in the nest box at Parking Deck West.

We have four recently fledged eastern bluebirds in our airspace and three Carolina chickadees. New berry baskets have been added to all unused nest boxes as we wait to see if the Cow Pasture and PKW nest boxes attract fully committed birds to use their space.
