Top Photo: Eastern bluebird eggs.
We now have five nest boxes with nest material inside their cedar walls. One of those nests contains bluebird eggs. One has a new chickadee nest. One is still empty.

The Cow Pasture nest box is empty with no activity noticed in the area on any of the past five weeks of nest box inspections.

Chickadees have built a moss, fur, and feather nest in the box at Explore the Wild. ETW nest box is traditionally a chickadee location.

The Sailboat Pond. It’s difficult to understand exactly what’s going on at this location. Last week we found a dead bird on the ground (bluebird) and chickadee nest material atop a bluebird nest in the box. Today, it looks as if a bluebird has been inside rearranging the pine needles and grass in the box. I’ll wait until we look inside this box again next week before I offer an explanation of what’s happening at the sailboat pond nest.

Into the Mist had a complete bluebird nest in the box last week. This morning (4.1.25) a bit of moss and fur, and maybe a feather or two has been mixed in with the bluebird nest material that has been in the box for the last three weeks. Another chickadee take-over? Again, we’ll wait to see what develops.

There were three eggs in the bluebird nest at Parking Deck East this morning. A female was in the box. Was she incubating when the inspection door was opened or was she about to lay another egg?

The Parking Deck West nest box has changed little in the past several weeks. In fact, it hasn’t been worked on at all.

Finally, we’ve seen some progress with bluebird eggs being deposited in one nest, a chickadee nest being completed in another, and a hint of chickadee in two other nest boxes. One box is still empty.
Until nest week, “have a good one!”
