what time of day Greg, and do you think we will- if we look up- see more?

    • Greg Dodge says:

      It was 11:49 AM.
I don’t know if we’ll see more eagles if we look up, but we surely won’t see any if we don’t look up!
Of the five Bald Eagles that I’ve seen over the Museum, all were seen in either February or September. That doesn’t mean that they can’t be seen in other months, or that there haven’t been more than five eagles pass over our airspace, but if I were to be on the lookout for eagles, I’d keep and eye towards the sky during those time periods. ‘Course, I’d suggest keeping one eye turned skyward throughout the year, you never know what’s going to go flying by.
Odd thing about the eagle on the 26th, it was heading south. I would have expected, if I were going to see an eagle at this time of year, that it would be headed north. This bird was going south, and it turned southeast before it disappeared behind the pines in Catch the Wind.

Wow! That is cool. Ranger Greg, What is your favorite thing to see this time of year?

    • Greg Dodge says:

That’s a dangerous question because I could go on, and on, and on about my favorite things to see at this time of year.
Every day there’s something new happening, whether it’s the progression of flowers that come into bloom as the season rolls along, the emerging reptiles and amphibians, the insects slowly increasing in number, the birds singing in the morning or the birds returning north after having been gone for a good part of the year. How could I pick a favorite from that, only partial, list of events?
So, I guess the only real answer to your question is the arrival of Spring itself, that’s the only answer that’ll work.
      Thanks,

It was a good raptor day with Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, Barred Owl (heard only), and of course Bald Eagle making the list.
      Yes, a good day!
