Who’s afraid of a little rain?

It began to rain towards the end of the day last Friday. It had been threatening to do so all day and finally did around 3 o’clock that afternoon.

People tend to clear out of the area when the rain starts in earnest. However, the wildlife is still there to see. The Great Blue Heron, bullfrogs, and Hooded Mergansers are not bothered in the least by the rain. In fact, the birds seem more active when it does rain. The reason for that, though, is only indirectly linked to the rain, there are fewer people around when it’s raining.

Here’s just a few shots of our mergansers enjoying the solitude of a rainy afternoon.

When the rain starts the mergs seem little bothered by it.
The rain was heavy at times, but of course, mergansers are ducks, they make their living in the water.
You can see the water beading up on the backs of these mergs.
Hoods back, these mergs steam out into the open water.

Bring an umbrella the next time rain is forecast and come on down to the Wetlands. The ducks, herons, frogs, and I will all be there.
