Snowflakes

It doesn’t happen very often here in the North Carolina Piedmont, but when the temperature is just right, and the moisture level is just right, there’s the potential to get a look at some “real” snowflakes, and not the icy, mushy, freezing presip that we usually get around here.

On Friday last, fowl weather was predicted by the local weather folks. There would be two bands of winter weather coming in from the west. The first band came through late morning-early afternoon. It started as little ice crystals, then changed to snow, then back to ice. The snow that fell in between the ice was magical, perfectly shaped little flakes, you know, the kind you draw when you’re a kid.

The flakes melted quickly when coming into contact with me, even on my outer clothing (I must give off a lot of heat), but I did the best that I could to capture a few flakes and maintain them long enough to get some photos. Hope you enjoy.

This flake settled on my jacket sleeve.
This flake landed on my glove.

See you next time!
