Bluebird Update 5.10.16

The fifteen bluebird nestlings which had occupied the Cow Pasture, Woodland, and Butterfly House nest boxes have all fledged. We now have only one active nest. One nest box which showed promise hasn’t been touched in two weeks.

The house wren nest which had been started at the Sailboat Pond doesn’t appear to be active. There has been no activity for weeks.

The nest hasn't been added to (Sailboat Pond - 5/10/16).

The only active nest is in the Woodland nest box. A house wren flew from the nest box as I approached, a twig was sticking out from the entrance hole to the box, and as I opened the side door to the box I saw a handful of twigs piled atop the former resident’s nest (bluebirds).

Sure sigh of house wren activity (Woodlands - 5/10/16).

It’s time to clean out the nest boxes and wait for another brood to be started by our nesters. Or, perhaps other species will use the boxes. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Enjoy!
