Nest Box Update 6.20.23

Top Photo: Eastern bluebird eggs.

We have two active nests. One is a rebuild and second brood by house wrens. The other, a bluebird nest about to fledge its occupants.

The Cow Pasture nest which was empty last week, and which has already fledged four house wrens is at it again. After cleaning out the nest box and putting in a new berry basket, wrens have again built a classic twig nest in the box. No eggs yet.

Explore the Wild, Into the Mist, and Parking Deck East nest boxes are inactive.

The five eastern bluebirds in the nest box on the west side of the parking deck look about ready to fledge. I don’t expect to see them again except, perhaps, following around their parents in the trees and shrubs on the south side of our campus.

The Butterfly House nest box is empty.

One nest is just beginning while another is about to end. The house wrens at the Cow Pasture may have eggs in the nest by next week’s inspection. The bluebirds at the Parking Deck West should be out of the nest within a few days or so.

See you next week!
