Nest Box Update 5.13.25

Top Photo: Eastern bluebirds eggs.

All nest boxes appear to be quiet, mid-way through the season. There are currently two nest boxes with nesting material. The remaining four are empty and waiting for a second brood.

The nest box at the Cow Pasture has twigs placed inside by a house wren but it doesn’t appear as though it’s been added to in the last week.

Not much change here at Cow Pasture house wren nest.

The Explore the Wild, Sailboat Pond, Into the Mist, and Parking Deck East nest boxes are all empty.

While the Parking Deck West nest box has had the makings of a bluebird nest within since March 4, it hasn’t been worked on since the end of that month.

Will bluebirds finally use this nest at PKW?

————————————

So, it’s mid season and we’ve seen 4 bluebirds and 3 chickadees fledge. We’ve had a brief disruption of nesting by what appears to have been a house wren raid on two of our chickadee nests. Bluebirds and a house wren have started individual nests at PKW and Cow Pasture but there hasn’t been much, if any, work done on either nest in weeks.

Is the season over so soon? For the answer to that question we’ll have to wait and see what the birds decide.

See you next week.
