Things are looking up, three of our nest boxes have activity, one which had a bluebird nest last week now has four bluebird eggs. Two nest boxes contain nest material placed inside their walls by Carolina chickadees.
The Cow Pasture nest box, located near the Train Tunnel is empty, no takers yet.

The Explore the Wild nest box is also empty. This box is usually occupied by chickadees. We’ll have to wait to see if they stick to the plan.

Chickadees have decided to start a nest in the box at the Sailboat Pond in Catch the Wind. Will they finish what they started?

The Into the Mist nest box has seen no additions to its empty cavity.

After having reported a completed bluebird nest in this box last week, there are now 4 eggs in the Parking Deck East nest. There was no one incubating when the inspection of the box took place, so there may be one or two more eggs deposited in the nest during the next few days. But that’s up to the bluebirds.

The nest box on the west side of the parking deck, Parking Deck West, was empty last week. It now has a chickadee nest inside. It needs a little tidying up, but the chickadees should be ready to lay soon.

So, after the second week of nest box inspections we have two chickadee nests started or complete (Sailboat Pond and Parking Deck West). We also have an active bluebird nest containing 4 eggs with the potential for more (Parking Deck East).
See you next week.
