If you haven’t heard yet…

Ranger Sara is leaving us for new adventures in the Land of Enchantment, the home of the Roadrunner, the headwaters of the Pecos River, Tony Hillerman country, and she’ll be right down the road from the first discovery of the Clovis Point*. I’m bummed, but I’m also happy, and a little bit jealous.

I’m bummed because Sara, besides being a good Ranger, is a good person, and I’m going to miss her. If you’ve worked or even talked with Sara you already know what I mean.

I’m happy because it’s a great new adventure for Sara. Going to a new place is always exciting, you meet new people, different cultures, and best of all, new flora and fauna. Sara’s lived in NM before but Sumner Lake State Park, where she’ll be working, is new to her and she’ll most likely encounter many new species of plants and animals.

I’m jealous because I’ve never been there before. I’ve spent time in the SW but have always passed through New Mexico without much exploration. I’m getting anxious just thinking about the birds, dragonflies, butterflies, and mammals that Sara will see. And I just know that there’ll be many, many herps running and crawling around Sara’s new home. The whole area is culturally, historically, geologically, and biologically rich. Some rather famous fossil discoveries have been made there as well**. My mouth is watering just thinking about it, and I’m not the one who’s going!

I know that this is kind of late notice for some of you (many of you already know), but Sara’s last day here at the Museum is TODAY, so if you see her wish her luck!

Good luck Ranger Sara!!

===================

  • A Clovis Point is a bifacial fluted projectile point manufactured and used by paleoindians about 13.5 thousand years ago. These projectile points were first uncovered near Clovis, NM, hence the name Clovis Point.

** The Alamosaurus depicted on the Museum’s Dinosaur Trail was first discovered in the Ojo Alamo Formation, NM. Parasaurolophus fossils have also been found in NM.

    I’m a little jealous too, New Mexico is absolutely beautiful, I’m sure Sara will have a great time but she will be missed here.

    We’ll miss seeing you around EtW and CtW! Enjoy NM, but keep checking back with us.

    I’ve gotten quite used to ignoring my radio. Now, there’s no need to qualify “come in Sara(h)” with ranger or keeper. It’s been a fun summer, enjoy NM and don’t forget to stop back here and say hello. You will be missed.
