Over the past winter I often heard loud noises coming from the attic area over the vending machines in Explore the Wild. It sounded like someone was moving furniture around! I suspected squirrels, or maybe raccoons.
On Saturday, June 4, I think I found out who was making that noise, at least the offspring of those noisemakers. I heard the soft chirping of a raccoon coming from somewhere above as I stopped in the shade to sip water in the heat of that humid, June day. Looking up I saw…

Never a dull one out there.
They are ridiculously cute! I wonder what happened to his/her left ear, it’s got a nice chunk missing.
Yes, they are very cute!
Don’t know about the ear, perhaps a scuffle with one of its siblings early on? got it caught on something up in the attic? born that way? We’ll be able to ID this one if we see it wandering the grounds later in life.
Thanks,
That is a great picture! They must be used to people watching up there.
Thanks Leslie.
Yes, I think the raccoons probably have done a lot of people watching over the past few weeks. From the time of their birth they could most certainly hear the many school groups that pass through or stop to refresh and rest in the shade down there in Explore the Wild.
