Nest Box Update 6.17.25

Top Photo: Eastern bluebird eggs.

We have one active nest with what looks like five nestling bluebirds. All five remaining nest boxes are empty except one which hasn’t been touched in weeks.

The Cow Pasture nest box still contains the twigs placed in the box by a house wren, but it hasn’t had any other activity since they first appeared in the box earlier in the season.

The ETW, Sailboat Pond, and Into the Mist nest boxes are all empty. Though the Into the Mist next box held three enormous eggs last week, they’re gone now as are the wood shavings that accompanied them.

Into the Mist cleaned and ready.

The Parking Deck East (PKE) nest box is empty.

Inside the PKW nest box there are what looks like five eastern bluebird nestlings. The fifth is pretty well hidden except for the top of its head on the left side of the nest, I think.

What appears to be the last nest of the season is about to lose its nestlings. If all goes well they should fledge soon. They may still be in the nest next week but it’s going to be close. They hatched sometime between June 3 and 10 and should fledge in 16 – 17 days from hatching. As noted previously, It will be close.

Till then…
