Welcome Jacques and Carolina

Top Photo: Red wolves Jacques (left) and Carolina.

We have two new red wolves residing at the museum as of Wednesday (11/19/25). While they familiarize themselves with their new surroundings please give them the benefit of low volume conversation while at the Red Wolf Overlook.

Now, down to business. Who’s who. Our new 6 year old female Carolina looks to be slightly larger than our male, maybe a bit taller as well as heavier built. She has a “neat” coiffed or groomed appearance, smooth rufous coat overall, dark back and tail. She has a white patch of fur on her belly and light colored eyebrows.

She doesn’t appear to be shy.

Carolina, a handsome, well “groomed” wolf.
Note white patch on her belly and light eyebrows.
Carolina’s dark back and tail.

Jacques, our 9 year old male, appears more overall brown than reddish or rufous. I would expect that both wolves’ winter coats have grown in, especially since they just arrived from South Salem, NY. So, until next spring they’ll probably keep their current appearance.

Jacques, our male, seems more cautious than his partner, Carolina.

Jacques’ overall brown appearance.
Jacques is, so far, more wary.

There are bound to be changes in behavior (they are just now exploring their new habitat) as the wolves acclimate to their surroundings. Stop by and check on their progress. If you need help finding them in the enclosure I, or another ranger, should be nearby.
