Over the next several weeks or so, Nature Watch will have a guest blogger posting about a new type of environment – our ocean!
The Museum of Life and Science is partnering with the Cassar Lab in the Nicholas School of Environment Division of Earth and Ocean Sciences at Duke University, for a look into the life and work of oceanographic researchers. We are inviting you to be a part of the journey to discover what happens on a research expedition and to do some experiments of our own!
Last summer, Educator Nettie McMiller joined Nicolas Cassar and his team of researchers for a 10-day ocean expedition from the coasts of Bermuda into the Sargasso Sea. The mission was to study nitrogen fixation at the ocean surface and to test newly developed technology and sampling techniques. On shore, Lab visitors took part in some ocean themed science, with activities from the science of salt to ocean safety and navigation.
Let’s see what happened, and find out what this year has in store!
