That’s a half eaten blackberry next to this juvenile catbird.

Catbirds sure do love their berries! Whether it’s Mahonia berries, mulberries, Russian olive, or blackberries, if there’s a catbird nearby it’ll be in the thick of it scarfing down the fruit. Pokeberry’s next!

The bird in the photo was with one of its parents who was apparently showing the youngster the ropes. I unintentionally interrupted the little bird’s lessons as it dropped the berry and turned to have a look at me.
