An Unfortunate Small Mammal

I discovered a Shorttail Shrew on the path just around the bend from the Lemur House. The shrew was DOR (Dead on Road). Another Shrew

On October 22, I found a Shorttail Shrew along the path on the north side of the Wetlands near the Lemur House. The shrew had expired. There were no visible signs of why it had expired. Curiously, another was found in the same condition back in June, just a few yards up the path (see, Shorttail Shrew, Explore the Wild Journal, June 16-30, 2008).Read more

An Unfortunate Soricidae, a Sciuridae, and a Leporidae

Top Photo: Groundhog. I spotted a Shorttail Shrew on the path on the back side of the loop near the dirt service road there. Unfortunately, the shrew was DOR (Dead on Road). I didn’t noticed any marks or other clues as to how it expired. I’ve been seeing Eastern Cottontails for the past few weeks at various locations and noticed one of the resident Groundhogs foraging alongside the Wetlands near the still blooming Lotus.Read more
