Pollen, Pollen, Everywhere Pollen

Over the past week, you may have noticed pollen on your car, sidewalk, outdoor furniture, even inside your house! But have you noticed the pollen on…

This damselfly’s head, thorax, and legs are covered with pollen (Fragile Forktail).

I’m not sure if our wildlife friends are bothered with allergies but in the case of the damselfly above it may cause a bit of a weight problem.

A Black Racer searches for prey in the leaf liter alongside the path here at the Museum (3/23/12). Notice the pollen specks on the snake’s head and neck, as well as on the leaves behind the snake.

A closer look at the racer. Pollen is visible around the snake’s eyes and in its nostrils.

Thankfully it’s raining today (3/24) and most of the pollen will be washed away.
